The Meridian that I purchased last month has always been a USCG documented vessel. My home state of GA requires the vessel to be registered through the state DNR even it the vessel carries the USCG documentation. It will cost me about $500 to transfer the USCG documentation to the Meridian. What is the benefit to having the vessel documented by the USCG? We never plan to cruise more than about 500 miles from home along the ICW.
