The decision to use a documentation service is up to him and at his expense.
I know some documentation services. If he do not take time to complete the documents, you can tell him about a documentation n service. A link is below.

Some buckets? A good knife in order to cut lines? Binoculars? Someone told me vinegar is awesome to have in a spray bottle for cleaning just about anything, etc. etc. You get the point.
What should I put in my big Tupperware bin that you've found useful to have on board?
Thanks in advance for ideas/comments.

I guess trying to simulate a building occupancy sensor (and maybe that's what I really should have)

but I am wondering specifically if anyone has any recommendations for these for a marine environment.

As to where you should or shouldn't, depends on how you feel about the old name and may also depend a bit on the reputation of the boat. I'd always change, because you never know what the old owner might have done to give that boat a bad reputation.

Can't I just ask the closing agent to add it to the list of tasks they will perform?

Anybody done this?

Thanks

Your vessel cannot be removed from documentation with an outstanding mortgage.
Documentation forms and fee schedules are available for downloading at this web site.
HOW LONG IS THE CERTIFICATE OF DOCUMENTATION GOOD FOR?

A Certificate of Documentation is valid for one year from the date of issue, providing there are NO CHANGES other than a change of owner's address. The Certificate must be renewed on an annual basis. Even though it is up to the owner to assure the document does not expire, the Coast Guard will send a Notice of Renewal to the managing owner approximately 45 days prior to expiration. There is no fee for the yearly renewal. See the instruction letter Renewal of Certificate of Documentation elsewhere at this site regarding renewal procedures.

No the jist of when transferring the boat uscg documentation- some basics from previous experience
or if you happen to be new boat owner, I'll just go by that one

So congrats! You've found the boat of your dreams before finalizing anything and good-to-go, paid off the seller lets make sure its a solid by the seller signing over the title or providing other legal proof of ownership. You MUST!

1. Obtain the California Certificate of Ownership (title) from the seller with the owner's signature release on line "1" of the title.
print your name and address and sign on the back of the title.

2. print your name and address and sign on the back of the title.

3. submit the title to the DMV with the transfer fee and use tax, if due.
